But ... this is Scan 2! Didn't you want Scan 3?

I didn't notice until the Hub output, which changed a lot last year. Also note that means Scan 2 needs Hub 1, while Scan 3 needs Hub 2.

Re: Self-learning and monte-carlo Algorithm

Thank for all these precisions. So the truth it's else that what it's claimed on many websites and blog. If you have doubts, you can post some links and I will have a look. Some of the confusion is understandable. "learning" is a vague term: it's supposed to describe programs that improve with time...

Hi Sidiki, The last post it's from 17th october. We know that at 'least one or two post were done in 2 days. What can be the reason ? I guess multiple. In my case, I am back to computer chess; it's been official for a few minutes: http://www.talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=65680 I am still avail...

Re: Scan - Flits - Truus

Well, whether it is a normal game. And how to play using the openings 2-move ballots and 3-move ballots. This looks like 2-move ballots to me: 32-28 19-24. Even if you couldn't, what is so wrong with normal games? You can ask Scan to play the opening more randomly like this: book-ply = 8 book-margi...

Re: Breakthrough Draughts

I don't know what draughts programmers in general think of DOE. It has been used to great effect in Cake/Kingsrow in 8x8 checkers. Ed has also used it in Kingsrow 10x10 draughts. The original paper by Thomas Lincke was very well aware of general BFS strategies. In fact, his PhD thesis has a special...

Re: Scan 3.0

You once wrote that you will share the Scan program (possibly 3.1) with the ability to play on both sides with the function dxp. Can you write when this will happen? You are changing my words; I said "perhaps". What do you mean by "the ability to play on both sides with the function dxp"? DXP relie...

Re: Breakthrough Draughts

Hi Rein, One advantage of dropout-expansion is that it builds a tree in memory and then only does alpha-beta searches on the leaf nodes, propagating the results up to the root. This means that all duplicate positions from the early plies are completely eliminated. This is the same strategy that Aart...

Re: Scan

I followed your advice and added a Node class ( http://fmjd.org/bb3/viewtopic.php?p=116882#p116882 ). I don't like the name, but couldn't find a better one ... As I understand, you got the idea from Don? Another inspiring (for me!) source for using a Node class is the great book Artificial Intellig...

Re: Scan

Yes, I think Don Dailey was the most prominent champion of Nodes with copy-make semantics. See some of his old Talkchess posts. One reason is that copy-make plays very nice with the Cilk parallelism extensions to C (there is now also Cilk-Plus, owned by Intel, which similarly extends C++). You prob...

Hi Rein, For those interested to see what has changed in the source code, I have updated the GitHub repositories for Scan and Hub to reflect the latest releases (Scan 3.0 and Hub 2.0). I followed your advice and added a Node class ( http://fmjd.org/bb3/viewtopic.php?p=116882#p116882 ). I don't like ...

Code: Select all

So you need to make this file look like the other one, by inserting line endings.

Re: Scan 3.0

Thank you for your answer Fabien. I have a question about options " ponder = falsethreads ". Does this feature support 1 or more threads. Comparing Scan 2.0 and Scan 3.0 - I understand that Scan 3.0 is stronger than you, compared to Scan 2.0. Threads (or pondering) haven't changed between Scan 2.0 ...
