For travellers and quick deciders! Enrolment deadline: September 30. Total costs for transfer Havana -Cienfuegos - Havana, tournament participation and lodging and food only 160 euros.


October 8-12 First Open International 10x10 Tournament Cuba

Wednesday October 8 – arrival in Cienfuegos, technical meeting
Thursday October 9 Round 1 and 2
Friday October 10 Round 3 and 4
Saturday October 11 Round 5 and 6
Sunday October 12 Round 7 and Award ceremony

It is for the first time, that foreign participation is allowed in a Cuban draughts tournament. Four draughts fans from Costa Rica already honored the efforts of the Cuban draughts community by confirming their arrival to Cienfuegos. The Cuban draughts community is in the process of establishing a national draughts federation.

Tournament system
The tournament will be played according to the Swiss system: 7 rounds, with two rounds on the first three days and one round on the last day.

The strongest players from Cuba have confirmed their participation.

Special Hospitality package offered to foreign players coming to Cuba

- transfer Havana – Cienfuegos – Havana 50 Cuban convertable dollars* per person or in case of more than 5 players, 20 Cuban dollars per person.
- stay in hotel Punta Caves from October 8-12, all meals included, in double rooms 150 Cuban dollars per person.

You will not find a cheaper solution for a very nice stay in Cuba! Youth players as well as veterans of course are also very welcome to come and take part in the competition.

This is a very special tournament for the Cuban community and the list of foreign participants needs to be coordinated with the government. Cienfuegos is a place that you must have visited, it's city center is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Don't wait and shop for your ticket to this unique and first time international draughts experience in Cuba. Please note, that it should be possible to – on your own initiative of course – extend your stay to admire more of this beautiful and still mysterious island. Buen viaje!

* The Cuban convertible dollar is linked to the US dollar. With a maximum price of 200 dollars (in case of 50 dollars per person airport transfer), the cost on Cuba for the tournament inclusive of hotel and meals is the equivalent of ca 160 euros.

Enrolment deadline for foreign participants extended to October 5th 2014, but due to booking and ticket prices, I recommend booking as quickly as possible.

Draughts promotor Juan Bautista from Costa Rica indicates that Walter Quesada is one of the strongest players from Costa Rica. He was also one of the first players to start studying the Course in Draughts initiated and developed by promotor Tjalling Goedemoed. Juan Bautista in cooperation with Tjalling translated it into the Spanish language.
